Once a Boyscout, Always a Boyscout

There is a trail I recently discovered near(ish) to my house. I am so happy to have found it as the vistas are gorgeous, quickly approachable and always deliver that "wow" factor! Another bonus to this beautiful trail is that it's relativly close to town so it's just a short drive.

Here in lies the problem...

Because it's close it gets a lot of traffic and because most people (I'm assuming) didn't grow up in Scouting or with any real instruction on how to properly be with nature, the impact of all of those feet is aggressive.

On a hike the other day I decided to help protect this beautiful space. A little passive help to sustain this little slice of beauty.

Harking back to the days of yore, okay not THAT long ago (unless you ask my kids of course), I had helped maintain trails as part of our monthly scouting service work. I noticed there is a lot of tree litter along the trail from recent winds and so began blocking some of the more obvious erosion lanes caused by all the traffic.

It's funny how good this made me feel. Something I could give back to help keep this space beautiful without having to be a nagging bystander calling out other people and their bad decisions. Feels like a win-win really.

I will most definitely keep this practice alive so long as this little spot needs protection. It costs nothing but a little day hike which is something I can most assuredly afford!

Trail Maintenance can be easy. Just place a couple downed branches as a natural break to help stop erosion of our trails.
